Dr. Samantha Nutt, internationally renowned humanitarian and Co-Founder & Executive Director of War Child Canada, has received the Order of Ontario, the highest official honour in the province of Ontario.
Dr. Nutt is among 29 new recipients of the Order of Ontario announced today. The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will bestow the honour at a ceremony to be held on Thursday, January 28th at Queen’s Park.
The appointees to Ontario’s highest honour were chosen for their contributions to the arts, science, medicine, education, politics, philanthropy, law and media.
Samantha Nutt was honoured for her lifelong dedication to providing direct humanitarian support and long-term programming to war-affected children and their families, as well as her commitment to peace, human rights and social justice. She is a medical doctor with over fifteen years experience working in war zones. Dr. Nutt’s humanitarian work has benefited hundreds of thousands of war-affected children globally. She has worked in some of the world’s most violent flashpoints with War Child Canada, the United Nations and non-governmental organizations in Darfur, Iraq, Afghanistan, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Burundi, northern Uganda, Ethiopia and the Thai-Burmese border.
Dr. Nutt’s work has been widely recognized. Among many honours, she is a recipient of Canada’s Top 40
Under 40 Award (Globe and Mail), and has been profiled by Time Magazine as one of Canada’s Five Leading Activists. In 2009, Dr. Nutt was chosen as one of 200 Young Global Leaders by the World Economic Forum, and most recently, she was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network. Dr. Nutt is a published author on global issues, a compelling speaker and a visionary thinker.
