Saltfleet District High School is home to Mr. Shea, a music teacher with a social conscience. Like a modern day Bob Dylan, Mr. Shea uses music to get a message out and make a difference. As head of the Saltfleet Guitar Club, Mr. Shea teaches students how to rock out for a great cause. After months of practicing, the Guitar Club performs for their friends and families in Saltfleet’s annual spring Keep the Beat concert. The concert is a huge hit and a great way to highlight some of the amazing talent coming out of Saltfleet.
This year’s Keep the Beat ended with a student sleepover at the school. Students raise money in the weeks leading up to the concert in order to stay up all night and let loose in their school.
While the Keep the Beat is a great way to spend the night, it also has a huge impact. Combined with various other fundraisers at Saltfleet, the Keep the Beat has raised over $20,000 in just 4 years!
Saltfleet’s Keep the Beat is a great example of how students can put their skills to use and raise funds for War Child. By rockin’ out all night, Saltfleet has rocked their way to the top and have become one of War Child’s fundamental fundraising schools.
