Supporter Spotlight

Belleville Golf Tournament

Whoever thought that raising money could be so much fun! On May 25th, 2011, the Trillium Wood Golf Club in Belleville, Ontario hosted a golf tournament benefiting War Child.  The tournament was organized by longtime supporters Christy Wagner and Jonathan Kerr, alongside their dedicated committee members: Christina Kerr, Katherine Kerr, Eveline Kerr, Chris LaSage, Marg Wagner, Ross Wagner, Lindsay Young, Ryan Wagner and Jamie Kort.

It was a beautiful day for golf but the perfect weather was just the icing on the cake. The tournament planning committee had been hard at work since the beginning of the year recruiting golfers and sourcing sponsors. Two sponsors in particular tempted golfers with the prospect of large prizes for the always sought after hole-in-one. The Bob Clute Automart offered a car on the 8th hole and The Royal Bank of Canada offered a cash prize of $15,000 on the 12th. Although everyone had their eye on the prize, many participants earned a new appreciation for golfers; it is not as easy as Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods make it look on TV!

At the end of the day, Christy, Jonathan, and their team raised an incredible $15,000! These funds will go towards War Child’s program in Afghanistan where we support vulnerable women learn the necessary skills to start their own small business which in turn allows them to send their children to school and provide for their families.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the event. A huge congratulations goes to Christy, Jonathan, and their committee. Many thanks to all of the sponsors who helped make this event possible.  The women and their families who benefit from War Child’s programming will be significantly impacted by this team effort.
