For the past nine years, SMUS’s Arts Council have been organizing a full day and evening of music for their school community. This student led initiative has become a tradition on campus which literally, thanks to in-class busking, fills each classroom with music. SMUS have branded their Keep the Beat with events and fundraisers that make it their own, including the annual t-shirt auction.
As is true with all successful student events, none of it would be possible without their faculty supervisor. For SMUS, that person is Donna Williams. Donna goes above and beyond to make sure that the students are supported and empowered to make the event their own. The Arts Council and every other facet of arts education on campus are richer because of her passion and love of music.
It goes without saying, that champion schools like SMUS, who go above and beyond in organizing fundraising events in support of War Child broaden the organization’s reach by connecting with communities across Canada. These invaluable partners make our work possible.
